SmartPowerLink is an off-grid node — a modified 20-foot container that brings power, connectivity, telehealth and financial services to places where power and connectivity are inadequate and unreliable, and watches over the infrastructure running past them.

A node prototype is ready for deployment and real-world testing in both urban and remote environments. We are looking for the partners to test it with.

Why It Exists

The Last Mile Has Inadequate and Unreliable Power and Connectivity

For Communities

People cannot charge a phone, get online, see a clinician or reach a bank without travelling. The services exist; the access point does not.

For Our Agents

A Smart Agent with no power and no connectivity cannot serve anyone. SmartPowerLink began as a way to keep our own people working off-grid.

For Small Businesses

Shops, salons, cold rooms and repair stalls cannot grow on power that fails. A node gives them reliable power, connectivity and access to finance on the spot, so they can open longer, serve more customers and invest.

For the Corridor

Rail, power lines and fibre run through communities that gain nothing from them. Assets with no local value are assets nobody protects.

A node does more than keep the lights on. Reliable power and connectivity let local businesses open longer, serve more customers and reach finance, and every business that grows buys, hires and spends locally.

Grow Zambia: the national agenda targets 10,000 MW of generation and development in every district. Grid expansion will take years to reach the last mile. A node delivers reliable power and connectivity there now, so communities and businesses along the corridor can take part in the growth the agenda is built on.

The Principle

A node that people use every day is a node that people look after. Wi-Fi, financial services, device charging and telehealth make the container part of ordinary life in the community around it — and a community with a real stake in the infrastructure protects that infrastructure far more reliably than a fence, a patrol or a penalty ever will.

Corridor Partnership

Built for the Lobito Corridor

The Lobito Corridor Alliance is a Swiss-based, private-sector-led initiative working to develop enabling infrastructure along the corridor that links the Copperbelt to the Atlantic through Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola. Its focus is on widening the corridor's local economic benefits, so that the communities it passes through gain from it rather than simply hosting it.

mBenki takes part in the Alliance, contributing community access points and field-level data along the Zambian section of the route.
